YANGON, 14 December 2025 – Following the official launch in Manila of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship in 2026 on 14 November 2026, the Philippine Embassy in Myanmar hosted a Networking Reception on 12 December 2025 to present the Philippines’ Chairship theme, priority areas and key deliverables.
Guided by the theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” the Embassy underscored the importance of sustained and strengthened engagement with partners and stakeholders in Myanmar. Through the networking reception, the Embassy sought to build awareness, and generate broad-based support for the Philippines’ Chairship priorities. The event aimed not only at communicating policy directions but also fostering meaningful spaces for diplomatic exchange, partnership-building, and cultural appreciation.
In setting the tone for the Philippines’ approach to the ASEAN Chairship, the Embassy echoed the message of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines and the Philippines’ Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, who emphasized that “the Chairship is both a privilege and a shared responsibility”. This principle reflects the Philippines’ belief that ASEAN’s strength lies in demonstrating solidarity as a Community, in partnership with key stakeholders.
The Embassy recalled President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision for ASEAN’s future: “If ASEAN is a ship, then 2026 will be the year we set full sail together toward that shared horizon.”
In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Angelito A. Nayan highlighted the strong sense of community within the diplomatic corps in Yangon. He noted that, as the Philippines prepares to take on the ASEAN Chairship, it draws confidence and encouragement from the steadfast support of its partners and friends in Myanmar.
The Embassy reaffirmed that building trust, deepening cooperation and promoting a people-centered approach will continue to guide the Philippines’ efforts throughout its Chairship in 2026.
The event also featured a special performance from the children’s choir of St. Mary’s Home. END
