January 2018 YANGON – An economic delegation from Pampanga led by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited Myanmar from 08 to 11 January to explore the possibility of sourcing raw materials such as teak wood and other hardwood species. This is the first such mission to Myanmar by a Philippine delegation in recent months.
The economic delegation was composed of Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, Pampanga Board Members, and representatives from the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and the Pampanga Furniture Industry Association.
During the visit, the delegation called on State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in Nay Pyi Taw, where they discussed cooperation between the Philippines and Myanmar in the furniture industry on top of other possible avenues for future collaboration.
Aside from the courtesy call, the Philippine Embassy in Yangon organized a series of activities for the group such as B2B meetings with companies in Yangon, observation of open tender at the Myanmar Timber Enterprise, and plant and factory visits. END
