YANGON, 25 October 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Myanmar successfully held the third Kapihan sa Pasuguan on 25 October 2025, focusing on the timely themes of community security and emergency preparedness, particularly in view of the upcoming general elections in Myanmar, which are set to begin on 28 December 2025, with the second phase scheduled on the first week of January 2026.
For the Filipino community of nearly 800 in Myanmar, these developments carry real and direct implications. The Embassy continues to monitor the overall situation, including the welfare of undocumented Filipinos, some of whom may have been victims of human trafficking in scam hubs.
Against this backdrop, the Kapihan served as an important venue to enhance community preparedness and reinforce coordination mechanisms. The gathering included a security briefing and an overview of the Embassy’s Contingency Plan.
Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Angelito A. Nayan, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of solidarity within the Filipino community, reminding everyone that, “At the end of the day, what keeps us strong is our unity as one Filipino family.”
This is also the first Kapihan made available virtually, allowing Filipinos outside Yangon to listen in on the discussion in real time.
As part of the program, the Embassy also presented Certificates of Appreciation to the audit team from the Commission on Audit (COA), Ms. Connie Rose Javier and Ms. Mabelle Arada, in recognition of their professionalism, constructive feedback, and valuable recommendations during the audit conducted from 11 to 26 October 2025.
The Embassy likewise announced that the final Kapihan sa Pasuguan for the year will be held on 7 December 2025 (Sunday), in collaboration with Pilipinas.MM, to offer an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate camaraderie, and close the year in the spirit of bayanihan. Venue details will be announced closer to the date.
The Embassy looks forward to seeing our kababayan in future Kapihan sessions and remains steadfast in fostering unity, preparedness, and mutual support among Filipinos in Myanmar. END
