THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN MYANMAR PARTICIPATES IN ST. AUGUSTINE CATHOLIC CHURCH’S ANNUAL FEAST DAY CHARITY BAZAAR

YANGON, 31 August 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon participated in the Annual Feast Day Charity Bazaar organized by the St. Augustine Catholic Church on 31 August 2025. Proceeds from this year’s event were dedicated to supporting flood-affected communities in Myitkyina, Kachin State, and Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region.
A centerpiece of the Embassy’s booth was the promotion of “ube diplomacy”, a cultural initiative built around the Filipino purple yam, or ube. Celebrated in the Philippines for its unique flavor and vibrant color, ube embodies Filipino warmth, creativity, and friendship. Guests were treated to an array of ube-based delicacies including ube cheese pandesal, ube cheese puto, mini ube cupcakes, sapin-sapin, bilo-bilo, and ube palamig that highlighted the richness of Filipino culinary tradition.
The Embassy’s participation also reflected its broader mission of fostering people-to-people engagement, strengthening cultural understanding, and promoting community solidarity. It provided a platform to showcase the culinary talents of Embassy personnel while supporting Filipino entrepreneurs in Myanmar by introducing Filipino food and culture to a diverse audience.
Through this initiative, the Philippine Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to meaningful causes while sharing the flavors and spirit of the Philippines with the community in Myanmar. END

WAKAS
