YANGON, 6 December 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Myanmar visited St. Mary’s Home in Kyauktan, an orphanage for girls under the care of the Servite Sisters, as part of the ongoing commitment to strengthening people-to-people relations.
St. Mary’s Home currently shelters around 110 girls, ages 5 to 22, who come from various parts of Myanmar and represent a wide range of communities, including Chin, Kachin, Kayah, and Karen ethnicities. All girls attend school up to 12th grade, and those who qualify are encouraged to pursue higher education. Others choose vocational training to help them develop practical skills.
The Sisters have also established a self-sustaining community on their 50-acre property. They cultivate their own produce, maintain a pond stocked with fish and shrimp, and operate tiered housing for egg-laying chickens. The farm and modest kitchen facilities enable them to provide healthy, home-cooked meals for the girls.
The mission of the Servite Sisters in Myanmar reflects the broader spirit of their global community. This same mission is also alive in the Philippines, where Servite communities contribute to the formation of young people and the pastoral care of the faithful through institutions such as the Servite Catholic School in Batangas and congregations in Cebu.
As the Philippines and Myanmar near 70 years of bilateral relations in 2026, the Embassy hopes to shine a light on the connections built not only through formal ties but also through acts of compassion and community support.
In this spirit of solidarity and shared hope, the Embassy has also invited the St. Mary’s choir to share their music during the year-end Kapihan sa Pasuguan on 7 December 2025. END
